 DAY 1: HA NOI ARRIVAL 

hanoi3 geekytravelOn arrival, your guide will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. Some free time at leisure to relax after the flight. Lunch at a local restaurant. We really get things going with a panoramic, one hour cyclo tour throught the old quarter in the afternoon followed by a visit of Ngoc Son Temple and Hoan Kiem Lake. A first true highlight is an outside glance of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Just before dinner, enjoy a water puppet show at the Thang Long theatre. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Hanoi.

 

DAY 2: HA NOI – HANOI WARTIME IMMERSION

Highlights include the museum of Vietnamese military, Hanoi Citadel with a visit to a newly opened bunker nearby. Continue driving to Ngoc Ha village you will see a wreckage of a B-52 bomber shot down in 1972 during the 12-day campaign. After a nostalgic lunch at local restaurant, visit the B-52 museum where you can see footage and images of the bombing campaign by US air force in 1972. Last stop of the day will be "Hanoi Hilton", a famous corner of the former prison in Hanoi. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Hanoi.

 

DAY 3: HA NOI – HA LONG

halong1 geekytravelPick up at your hotel in Hanoi and transfer 160 km east to Halong. Upon arrival in Halong Bay, you board your boat for an unforgettable cruise. Welcome seafood lunch on board. Cruise in Halong bay visiting some islands and caves. You can swim, kayak or just relax at Titov Beach. In the late afternoon, admire the sunset over the bay, participate in a cooking class or have fun on the bar deck with happy hour. Enjoy a lovely dinner on board. There is even some night fishing is on offer. Overnight on board the boat.

 

DAY 4: HA LONG – HA NOI – HUE

After arrival at Halong wharf, you are transfered  back to Hanoi airport for our flight to Hue, in central Vietnam. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Hue.

 

DAY 5: HUE – QUANG TRI – VINH MOC – DONG HA

Afterwards you depart to Quang Binh, to the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) around paralell 17 North, the former border between North and South Vietnam until the collapse of the Saigon Regime in 1975. Delicious lunch at a local restaurant. A highlight is coming up, as you visit the tunnels of Vinh Moc, built by the people from the nearby villages to shelter from the American attacks. Unlike the tunnels in Cu Chi in the south, the complex of Vinh Moc did not suffer any modification for tourist purposes. Afterwards, continue to Dong Hoi. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Quang Tri.

 

DAY 6: DONG HA – KHE SANH – A LUOI – HUE (HO CHI MINH TRAILS)

khesanh geekytravelAfter breakfast, depart to the DMZ (Demilitarized zone) along Route 9 to Khe Sanh. Passing a series of fire support bases: the Rock Pile, Da Krong bridge and Huong Hoa district headquarters. You arrive in Khe Sanh, which now is a coffee plantation, an old French fort and the Montagnard village. A quick glance at the Lao Bao border town where illicit border trade remains very active. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Then you travel to A Luoi and visit the Special Forces camp there. Visit to the landing zone Cunningham, Arsine and Razor. Upon special advanced request, we might have an option to see A Sau valley and the famous Hamburger Hill. Onwards to Hue from some time for dinner. Overnight in Hue.

 

DAY 7: HUE – DA NANG – HOI AN

danang geekytravelIn the morning, you take a boat cruise along the romantic Perfume River to visit Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the oldest ancient architectural structures for religious worship in Hue. Visit the splendid Imperial city from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 to 1945. To start the afternoon, you take lunch at a local restaurant. Then you  transfer to Hoi An across the Hai Van Pass, passing through many pretty red-tiled villages. On arrival in Da Nang, visit the Cham Museum, Marble mountain and Non Nuoc Beach then drive to Hoi An. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Hoi An.

 

DAY 8: HOI AN – MY SON – HOI AN

myson geekytravelFor today, a morning pick up is arrangedto drive 40 km Southwest of Hoi An for a half day trip to visit the capital and religious centre of the former Champa Kingdom, UNESCO World Heritage site. Back to Hoi An for lunch. In the afternoon walking tour of Hoi An to discover the historic town which used to be a prosperous seaport city during the 16th to 18th centuries. If you want you can also see local residents raise silkworms and produce silk for Hoi An's burgeoning textile industry. Free time for dinner. Overnight at Hoi An Beach.

 

DAY 9: HOI AN – MY LAI – QUY NHON

Then continue to My Lai Massacre Village – a place where American troops massacred the local people on the morning of 16 March 1968. You will visit My Lai Museum to learn more about the war, and then spend time to visit the village with its monument. Lunch at a local restaurant. On to Quy Nhon. Free afternoon and time for dinner. Overnight in Quy Nhon.

 

DAY 10: QUY NHON – SAIGON WARTIME MEMORIES BY VESPA

saigon4 geekytravelAfter breakfast, you are taken to the airport for your flight to Saigon. Upon arrival, pick up by your new driver and transfer to the hotel. Lunch is taken at the city centre. A fun afternoon is in store : a vespa tour through Saigon.  Visit the site of the 1952 car bombing made famous in Graham Greene's book 'The Quiet American,' The Rex Hotel (a former officers quarters, not a hangout for journalists), the site of the self-immolation of Thich Quang Duc in July 1963, and the CIA Apartment House on Ly Tu Trong, made famous for the photos of its helicopter evacuation. Afterwards, free time for dinner. Overnight in Saigon.

 

DAY 11: SAIGON – CU CHI – SAIGON

Afterwards, drive back to the city for lunch. In the afternoon visit the History Museum, the former presidential Palace and make a quick photo stop at the General Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Saigon.

 

DAY 12: SAIGON – CAI BE – VINH LONG – CAN THO

The trip includes a visit to the canals where the floating market of Cai Be takes place, and to a family-run business making rice paper and corn flakes of Vietnamese style. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch , you proceed to Can Tho. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Can Tho.

 

DAY 13: CAN THO - SAIGON

You continue to cruise among small, snaking canals, if water level permits, to get a closer look into locals' daily life. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afterwards, you drive back to Saigon for your final night in Vietnam. Free time for dinner. Overnight in Saigon.

 

DAY 14: SAIGON - DEPARTURE
